IE font scaling -- Is the registry setting on?

#1 Post by kc » Sun Aug 01, 2004 10:31 am

Thanks to this group for numerous posts about scaling fonts for my SXGA+ screen.

I've set display to 120dpi, changed icon size, etc with great success. IE is still not perfect. I adjust text size (OK) and have used the accessibility setting to scale the other fonts. The results of the latter are very inconsistent.

I noticed in a recent post that a change to the registry can help out. See

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... hlight=dpi

at the bottom of the page.

Also, I googled the following MSDN article on the same subject:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defau ... ighdpi.asp

The article indicates that a registry entry can enable font scaling for higher resolution screens in IE6.

Question: Does anyone have experience with these suggestions? Is the font scaling key already enabled by IBM in my 2378FVU? Is this worth trying?

Thanks.

I tried another approach to solve the IE scaling issue. As suggested in several prior posts, the Mozilla Firefox browser (0.9) does a much better job of scaling all fonts on a web page, not just selected ones.

I'm still interested whether anyone has information on the registry adjustments for IE6 or whether other solutions might help.

I appreciate the help.

I use the registry change for IE6, and it mostly works. The only problem are some web page dialogs from Windows Update, where you need to use the tab key to get to the buttons.
But I still keep Opera around for the few cases where it screws up.

Thanks for your helpful response.

Would you please clarify: Did you have to set the registry setting yourself -- or was it preset by IBM? Also, did you also set your display setting to 120DPI in addition to the registry change? I am wondering how the two changes interact.

Thanks.
