Bluetooth mouse recommendations

#1 Post by Binglehopper » Sun Aug 01, 2004 4:57 pm

hey everyone,

i'm thinking about getting a bluetooth mouse for my new T42 (i assume any bluetooth mouse will work w/ the T42?).

does anyone have any experience w/ bluetooth mice? how about recommendations? i know it's a relatively new idea, so i'm just seeing what everyone thinks.

thanks in advance.

Hi,

I bought a logitech mx 900.
But two days after using it I returned it to my shop !
Indeed this mouse is not for mobile usage. In my bag, the mouse continous to function, therefore I have only 2 or 3 hours of autonomy by day.
But if you want to use it for home no problem, the mouse work perfectly with my IBM.

Me I'm waiting for a bluetooth mouse with on/off switch like the logitech cordless optical mouse for notebooks.

thanks for the input, yea, i checked out the logitech one.

i've also seen this other one by thermaltake (the big heatsink maker), and i believe the mouse has an on/off switch on the bottom you were looking for:

You can also look around at Microsoft. They still don't have a nice, small Bluetooth notebook mouse though.

I use the MS one. It's about the size of a rat, or hamster, definitely not a mouse for travelling. I leave it at the office desk, and when I dock my compture to the port replicator, it is all ready to go.

Of course, if you have a large carrying bag, you can stuff the rat in there. On/off switch is no big deal. Just take one fo the AA battery out. A <5 sec job.

I like the look, and build quality of it. Definitely the best mouse I've ever bought. It works with the T41 built BT right away, but it seems to work better if you update the driver through device manager, and upgrade the drvier. When prompted with a list, choose the unsigned version.

Look I'm just going to have to complain - it's just not fair! All you lot over there in the US/Canada can get these really neat mice (Bluetooth and otherwise) but over this side of the 'pond' all we get is a few lease/lend Microsoft gadjets, and the odd Logitech keyboard if we look hard enough.

Why can't we have a few of these goodies too? I mean, we've got electricity, television, DECENT wine - so what gives? I've stopped looking (drooling) over sites in the US 'cause I know full well I'll not be able to get these items either in France or mailed to me from the US. I'd love a little bluetooth mouse to go with my T42 - just have to wait for a trip stateside (sometime during 2009 if I play my cards right) I s'pose...

Buy the thermaltake

#9 Post by faa-der » Mon Aug 02, 2004 7:07 am

The thermaltake is a great mouse. I've been using it for a few months now. Always recognized, little to no delay. It's small, which I actually like.

The only problem is if you throw it in a travel bag like I do. It does tend to come apart (the battery compartment.) I have to re-insert the battery every once in a while. The on/off switch is great, though I often forget to turn it off. I use rechargeables, so batteries don't cost an arm and a leg.

I use Kensington PocketMouse Bluetooth:
http://www.kensington.com/html/5529.html
Perfect, compact size, even for my big hands. The mouse doesn’t have an on/off switch, but not continue to function in the bag. After turning off the laptop (hibernate, sleep mode), the mouse can be activated by pressing the button only for a 2-3 sec. Nice addition: under the wheel is a blue diode, which starts blinking when batteries are low.

Kano's looks to be the one I like more so far.
I just wanted the BT mouse when you need to control presentations, that way you also save to cary a mouse.
Besides that scenario, it is a little silly to adquire one... or any other wireless mouse for that matter. For me, it is equally hassle to carry an extra battery (no to mention the trouble of constantly need to replace one) than a 3ft cord!

Ian, we are not missing much in the old europe with the BT mice yet...!
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

I know you're right, of course - I recently waxed lyrical about the tiny Logitech Traveller mouse - great little thing, WITH a cable of course. The thing is, I've got this [censored] BT and I thought I'd like to put it to use - yes ok, so I can use my Palm, but the idea of a wire-less mouse seemed really attractive. I admit that the battery 'problem' does exist - although Duracells do last an amazing amount of time if stored well...

it sounds like that macmice BT mouse posted above will have good battery life, if only it didn't look like a mac :P

I too am looking for some sort of cordless mouse.

I would prefer bluetooth, but would using a bluetooth mouse slow down my T42p at all? if so, I'll just get one of those USB wireless mice that has the super small usb connector that sticks out the side of the laptop. They're also alittle cheaper IIRC.
