t42 questions-models and quality

#1 Post by teknerd122 » Mon Aug 02, 2004 12:44 am

What is the difference between the 2373BYU and the 2373BXU? All that I can tell is that the BYU is slightly more expensive...both have 3 year warranties and must be configured w/ ram/os options. Also, how is the quality on the 14" t42? Is it as good as on the 15"? Battery life is an issue for me, as is weight (will be commuting to school every day and must carry the laptop from class to class).

If you're concerned about the weight + battery life then you should definitely go with the 14". The build quality thing is something that only occurs if you're nitpicking. Honestly I wouldn't have noticed my battery rattling if I hadn't read about it on here. Other than that, my 14" T42P has none of the other issues mentioned. It seems to be just luck of the draw because there are identically configured Thinkpads that have different keyboards / build quality. If you're VERY concerned with battery life, I'd go for one with a 5400 RPM hdd, radeon 9600, and 512MB RAM.
