HDD Activity LED mimic

#1 Post by mikek » Sat May 06, 2006 2:42 pm

Hi - I use my T42 a lot in port replicator with external screen. When I do, I really miss not being able to see the HDD LED (cos the lid's closed!). It's first check to see that an app's not hung if I can see that the HDD is running.....

Does anyone know of any utility that can mimic this LED on screen? Would only need a couple of pixels.... or something in the systray?
Regards

I'd google or search download.com ... the old pre-X Mac OS' did this (a blinking HD icon next to the Finder menu), and I'm sure people've written little Windows ditties to do the same. Probably not even hard to do.

P.S. Wouldn't it be nice if the Active Protection (HDD airbag) icon in the SysTray did this? (hint, hint)

Have googled and not found anything that was a tiny bit of some major bloat ware...

Well, a couple of moments with Goggle turned up HddLed Indicator, and if there is one, that probably means there's more if you look hard enough!

Cheers,

Bill

Googled again with Bill's prompting... found this freeware: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/downloads/in ... emID=23027

Googled for info on the app - seems harmless (one site says it's a trojan - but I think they're just trying to sell their registry cleaner). Spybot, Adaware and MS Antispyware think it's clean.

I'll run it for a bit and see how it is.....
