Question of Heat Again: Playing Guild Wars

#1 Post by rosemarycane » Sat May 06, 2006 6:17 pm

While playing guild wars on my t43 2668, the bottom of the thinkpad gets extremely hot, almost too hot to touch.

This is when the power is set to maximum performance. Using mobility monitor, it registers my cpu as being 71 degrees. Is this something I should be concerned about? Or is this normal behavior when playing a game with the throttle wide open?

Thanks,

Sean

That is normal, and on the T41/2/3 it is worse than a lot of other laptops because the heatsink cools both the CPU and the GPU.

If it makes you feel better, I've got a screensaver that pushes my T42 up to 85-90C. Toasty in the winter, scalding in the summer.

That is normal behaviour when you are playing a game on max power settings fro your system. You could probably test that as well, with something like Prime95 or BOINC and get around the same temperatures as you get in Guild Wars.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
