standby password gone after XP upgrade

#1 Post by jwc553911 » Mon Aug 02, 2004 2:30 pm

I have a T21 #2647-4AU
It came with Win98SE and i upgraded to WinXP Pro.
Before when i closed the lid to put it in standby, it would power down and the sleep light would be the only thing lit (besides the battery light when plugged in) when i opened the lid i would get the regular power on password prompt like on a new startup.
NOW when i shut the lid, it still powers down but the Ultrabay 2000 light stays lit, and when i open the lid it goes to the windows logon screen (which i dont want to use) i have all the lates bios updates and power drivers. any thoughts???
Thanks!
Jeff

Try disabling "use welcome screen" in the Users section of the Control Panel. Then, you should get the "normal" password prompt.

On my T42 my ultrabay light stays on even when the laptop is sleeping.

right click on your desktop choose properties and uncheck "On resume, password protect" under the Screen Saver tab.

under XP mine does too NOW, but under 98SE and Me it did not.
I dont think it is anything in my BIOS, everything is exactly the same. I have even tried disabling everything i could in it. I have all of the passwords set up...

I'm afraid you can't get this prompt back. Windows XP uses the modern power management interface, and bypasses the power-on password.
If you want to have password protection on resume, you will need to go to the "Power Options" applet in the control panel, and in the "Advanced" tab enable "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby".
Actually, this way you will be ready faster, since Windows can now reinitialize all the HW while you tick away your password.
