yes i'm under dynamic switching with NHC software (1.020V at 1.7GHz)

room temp is ~25c

i don't know what's my gpu temp.. it's not displayed in the NHC but i set the clock control on NHC for 130MHz/130MHz

i don't think my thinkpad is running at low temperature cuz i've heard someone told me having a t42 2GHz running at average 35c he told me without AS5

[censored] 35C is way too low to me. I would be happy if my T42p temp were 40C.

You can check your CPU temp using T43 Fan Control, check the sticky in the ThinkPad T4x Series only section.

I don't understand why some laptops processors run more cooler than others. My average CPU temp is 52C with 1.196V @ 1.8GHz.

I can't undervolt the GPU under NHC because that option is grayed out. I did upgrade the drivers from ATi, or the modded driver over the forums, but the screen flickers weirdely.

Do you have the 128MB FireGL T2 Video card?

i just checkd the fan control... i don't know why i can't get to install it :? :?

my video card is the ati 9600

by the way, now the cpu seems to be cooler than few days back when i just applied as5. no it idles at ~37c
and when watching a movie at full screen, it goes no more than ~42c :D :D seems it really needs a few break in days

In order to view all the laptop temps, download Thinkpad T43 Fan Control. You unzip the contents of the file, execute fancontrol.exe, then it appears like nothing happens.

But, in your taskbar (right side at the bottom) of your screen you'll see a gray circle with a T inside. You double click on that icon and the software window will appear.

It's amazing that you run 37C idling, but (how much time did you leave the machine in that idle state? To properly measure that temp you should at least wait 1 hour and then check your CPU temp and see if it's the same.

Apparently some laptops run cooler than others. Mine is 45C with Dynamic Switching. But I wish I could underclock my GPU to achieve a more cool system.

Is it better Coollaboratory Liquid Pro vs Arctic Silver 5??

I think my syringe of AS5 is out of date, as curiously all the people that have applied it have yielded positive results.

My CPU is too [censored] hot, generally running at 56-60C with the 1.8GHz processor with the stock voltage.

do you think the CLP will ruin my heatsink/CPU/GPU?

if you are sure both CPU/GPU and heatsink don't contain silver then you are good to go.

Thanks nirvana

I dumped the option of CLP, too dangerous, considering it might corrode the copper heatsink on T4x series.

I was searching the web, and found out another competitor for Arctic Silver: It's name is Zalman ZM-STG1

Image

Read the review here:
http://www.tipidpc.com/viewtopic.php?tid=67101&page=1

It claim to reduce CPU/GPU temps 1-3 or maybe more degrees off better than AS5!!
Really impressive

The most important thing here, is that it comes in a nail polishing bottle with the brush, so that the application of the product is easier.

I think my AS5 syringe is oudated or something, or was stored in a place where the product lost its consistency, because my T41p temps have gone very high.

I already ordered it off eBay for 14 USD included shipping.

I'm enthusiastic about this product. Time to ditch the AS

Well can we get a report from anyone who has used Coollaboratory Liquid Pro on their thinkpad? Like a "1 month later" thing? Any corrosion?

Well, to me I think there will be.
It's demonstrated that Zalman Super Grease DO decrease 1-4C compared to AS5.

In my case, my AS5 syringe has proved a pain in the a$$, because I've reapplied to many times, but the temps rise stratospherically.

Is there a way to know if the compound inside the syringe had lost its consistency, maybe storing it in a bad way (syringe should be stored facing down).
I heard also from a user in newegg, that his new AS5 paste is blueish, compared to the grayish stuff on his former AS5 syringe.

How can you explain that my CPU reach 63C when not gaming, only watching a DVD movie, running at 1.8GHz. This is unacceptable.

Depending on how old it is, if it has been kept in a cool place and out of the sun etc. I'm sure there's some way it could be less effective if applied after present in the above conditions.

AS5 works fine for me, and others. Zalman are pretty good with their products, so all the best to you.

Yep, indeed.

Strangely enough, in my T30 the temp drops very fast, considering that the thing (AS5) has not reached the 200 burn-in period.
The T30 is ready to sale. A shame, because that machine is rock-solid.
I need the money to make up of getting this T41p hot hot machine, thanks to AS5 defective production :?

Nope, the thing has not arrived yet.
I'm also expecting a Thai keyboard bought from Dimitri, on these forums.

For sure I'll post a review how did all go with the Zalman.

Anyone could confirm if the TIM affects heat dissipation when you run your CPU undervolted at 600 or 800MHz? For example, if I did applied a lot of AS5 in the CPU core, then the heat dissipation would be affected, even if the fan is not ON?

Yes, indeed.
Maybe I did applied it too thick.

On my T30 I used a kitchen plastic bag and covered my hand with the bag, then spread too little AS5 on the P4-M core and with my finger I spread it, It was a very thin layer.

Like I said, Im still waiting for Zalman to arrive

Yes! At last the thermal compound arrived.
It was very easy to apply, with the included brush. You just paint your CPU/GPU/Heatsink too.
This thing works better than AS (IMHO), but it all depends on tastes.

@Dead1nside: Well, this thing is less than one day applied and it has performed very well. the CPU maxes 70C when playing NFS Most Wanted, and the GPU reaches about 75C. About 3-6C degrees off AS5.

Well, I've just done some extensive testing. My thermal paste is only a week or so since I got the IBM tech. whilst replacing the system board (fried GPU) to use my AS5 instead.

I was playing Rise of Nations for 6 hours straight, on the AC so everything going at full.

Afterwards temperatures were:

66degC CPU
75degC GPU
45degC HDD

I haven't experienced any adverse affects, and think that these temps are normal, since it's a laptop and a thin and light one at that.

The FireGL T2 is a reasonably good performer.

I don't think any of these temps are anything to be concerned about.

If it was reaching into the 80s for the CPU then yes, the GPU running that hot is fine, GPUs always run very hot. Hard drive at 40degC is alright, not ideal but the design of the T series means that the heat is very concentrated.

The second HDD I imagine does raise the whole motherboard area temperatures by a few degrees.

I wonder what's your HDD temp guys.
My CPU reaches about 71C after playing. The GPU about 80-83C.
I can't keep my CPU temp to keep in 35C idling, guess it has to be that the primary HDD E7K100 jumps very high its temp.
