T43 and Dell 2405FPW monitor

#1 Post by NHComp » Sat May 13, 2006 8:22 am

Hello,

I have a T43 15" XGA with the 915 chipset. When I bought it a little over a year ago I thought the chip set was an asset but now I find out it will only reach 1600x 1200 resolution and the 24" Dell is optimized at 1920 x 1200.

Someone on another forum suggested I try the Omega ATI drivers or the ATI Catalyst drivers but those didn't get it up to 1900 x 1200.

If I get the Dock II can I add a video card that will override the 915 chipset? Any other suggestions?

I'd hate to get rid of this laptop because it's really rugged and the resolution is fine when I need to use the laptop on the road, but I'd really like to run the big monitor when I'm working at the home office.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I have a T40 here with 32MB 7500 card, and as we speak i'm on my 1680X1024 monitor. With a Mini dock II, so no problem. go to the ATI software, and you will see you can get resl. up to 2000 something.

Yes, you could get a Dock II (for hundred$) and a video card (price varies), but couldn't you just configure the 2405 to 4:3 and use it at 1600x1200?

Or for the price of a dock II and video card, bet the IBM L201p monitor.

Thank you Toine and David for responding!

David - I tried 1600 x 1200 but I prefer smaller fonts so everything seems HUGE at that resolution.

Take a look at these two threads.

In addition, I pulled up 16 threads on the Dell 2405FPW Monitor, by putting Dell 2405FPW Monitor in the text box of the search function of this forum and choosing the radio button: Search for all terms. To enter the search function, click on the Search icon at the top of your screen.

What?? Your monitor's native resolution is 1200 high ... so your fonts ought to look fine. If they're "stretched," you didn't understand what I was saying ... configure your monitor to NOT be 16:9 ratio (widescreen), but 4:3 (square, 1600x1200).

You can also adjust font sizes in windows with the Display | Advanced -> DPI setting.
