T42 eBay batteries? Which one to get?
My T42's battery is really starting to give poor performance even with the power manager set to slow and dim.
I'm thinking about getting both a replacement main battery and a case battery and wondering about the quality of these as offered on eBay.
Or has someone had decent luck with a good vendor for these items?
Thanks
Dean

Vendor for Generic Battery Packs
Hi hailwood1965,
As I posted in a previous thread, for the last four and a half months I've been using a generic replacement battery on my R31 (model 2656 77U with 384 MB Ram) bought for slightly under $70 from http://www.camera-battery.net . In my case, I could not justify the higher cost of an original IBM/Lenovo replacement part, nor wanted the risk of purchasing on eBay from dealers usually situated in Hong-Kong.
As far as I can tell, the new battery pack is every bit as good as the original IBM battery pack, and I haven't had any problems with it so far.
Please keep us informed.

ULtrabay Slim batteries are nice to augment a main battery (see my sigline
), but only offer about half the runtime of a 6-cell. I would recommend the 9-cell if you don't mind the extra weight (minimal), and the extra inch out the back.
A ebaY seller named pc-parts-gallery was selling new 9-cell batteries at a really nice "buy now" price. Not sure if she has more ... but her feedback on several TP battery sales was excellent. Something to watch for if someone says "new, unused" is to check in Power Manager/Battery Maximizer to see how many cycles on are on it -- "new unused" batteries should read 0 (zero). One or two posters here have bought "new" batteries from auctions, then found some cycles on the item (20-30 is not bad, but indicates a few months use). Caveat emptor, always.

I recently purchased a brand new factory sealed 9 cell battery from an eBay seller called "3rd_coastal" for approx. $76 including shipping.
Together with an Ultrabay battery, I manage to get just under 10 hours of battery time. That is with the screen being set to 4/7 brightness and using NHC to undervoltage the CPU and graphics card.
Go for the 9 cell battery as you can always find decent deal from reputable sellers on eBay.

Seconded for pc-parts-gallery - you need to check regularly for when she does sell the TP batteries (last sale was a week or 2 ago) but I'm keeping a keen eye out for the next time some are listeddavidspalding wrote: A ebaY seller named pc-parts-gallery was selling new 9-cell batteries at a really nice "buy now" price.
