Problems with my new T42 (2378-FVU)

#1 Post by rhema83 » Tue Aug 03, 2004 9:31 am

Hello people! I've tried looking for the answers in the FAQ and past threads but couldn't find the answer for some. So here are all my problems...

1) The AC/DC adaptor uses a 2-pin C8 input. Therefore it's not grounded. Is it safe? Does everyone get that adaptor? (When I bought my X31 in Singapore, I had the 3-pin C6 variant which was grounded.) Yesterday I got a small shock when unplugging external speakers. (It might be the speakers, but there's the possibility that it's because of the T42.) Ouch. :(

2) I have a tiny scratch on the screen which is not visible when the T42 is on. Only under bright light and when the LCD is off then I can see it. Should I return the computer? There is no dead pixel at all, which I am very happy about.

3) How do you register your computer with IBM? Or is that required at all? There was a "Register Your Thinkpad" icon on the desktop when the computer was stock. I erased the hard drive and forgot to take down the URL. Oops.

it's no problem... they all come that way now....

2) I have a tiny scratch on the screen which is not visible when the T42 is on. Only under bright light and when the LCD is off then I can see it. Should I return the computer? There is no dead pixel at all, which I am very happy about.

i wouln't take the chance on getting a dead pixel in a new sccreen. if you can't see it when it's on, who cares?

3) How do you register your computer with IBM? Or is that required at all? There was a "Register Your Thinkpad" icon on the desktop when the computer was stock. I erased the hard drive and forgot to take down the URL. Oops.

i's not a url, it's a program. call them to register.....

Thanks Leon! :D

I've called IBM and had them file a case for the electric shock problem. It seems to be an isolated incident. I was also advised not to change the screen. Haha.

I've also registered the computer online. There is an URL you can go to. Search for "Thinkpad Registration" at IBM website and you'll find it. This machine is fantastic overall. I wish it didn't have the small problems like loose battery and flexing keyboard. :P

Scratch

Sometimes what looks like a scratch on an LCD is not really a scratch. Oil from your fingers that gets on the keyboard will transfer to the LCD. It looks like the screen is scratched. Try clenaing the screen with a soft lint-free cloth moistened with a 50% Iso. Alcohol / Water mixture.
If you are lucky, your "scratches" may go away! :D
