CD/DVD drive problems!
CD/DVD drive problems!
so after copying some files off of a burned cd, i press the little blue button to eject the cd, and nothing happens. when i go to my computer and right click to eject, nothing happens. the only way i can get it to eject is to log off and then log on again. then when i press the button, it ejects. it's happened twice since last thursday, when i got this t42. i hope this is not something that i have to do often. it's pretty annoying. does anyone know why this is happening? is my cd/dvd drive defective? thanks in advance.

No, this isn't something inherent to the T42 or any other Thinkpad. That has happened on most computers I have used with Windows; instead of logging off and logging back on, you can use a little paper clip and put it into the emergency eject hole in the rive and it will pop the drive right out.
This happens when there is some hung thread or process that makes Windows think the drive is still in use. Hence, it won't eject until it detects that nothing is using the drive.

I think this might be related to the DLA (drive letter access) software for writing to CD/R CD/RW disks like to a floppy drive. Make sure you have the latest version, or else you can choose to not use it on your drive by right-clicking on the CD drive in My Computer, choose Properties > DLA, and uncheck box. You can also uninstall DLA if it is something that you won't be using.
