Requesting recovery cds online?

#1 Post by dalee18 » Tue Aug 03, 2004 4:47 pm

Is there a way to request recovery cds online within the first 30 days, or do you have to call? I'm shy and I'd really like to avoid a phone call if possible. Anyone know?

Unfortunately you have to call IBM. There is no other way. You have to overcome your shyness. Or maybe you can email Bill (bill@thinkpads.com), explain him your situation, and maybe he will help you out.

Even if you are shy, the IBM people rarely bite. Just call and say I have xxxx-yyy ThinkPad Serial Number aa-bbbbb. I am installing a larger hard drive and I need the Recovery CD's to image the new drive.

They should handle that request in a very matter-of-fact manner, and you have given them an iron-clad reason that should not result in any questions except to verify your shipping address.

Good luck :)

I second everything said above. It's a very easy phone call. I told them that I had foolishly reinstalled Windows and formatted the drive without making a set of the recovery discs, and they were very willing and helpful.

I called yesterday to IBM and it was a very friendly call... no excuses was needed at all.
Today I had got the disks with me... Overnight delivery?? I was not expecting that! Doesn't a delivery like that costs like $35 or so?!
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

Somthing like that as for cost.
Thats how I got mine just called and said that I would like them no excuses. And they overnighted them to me.

I also ordered one today...I have passed the 30 day time limit...but the Rep told me he will send it anyway...

After the 30 days you can only get the recovery CDs if you have a problem with your laptop...but depending on the Rep...they will still ship it out...

Told me it will take about 5 business days...
