Screen brightness.

I was wondering if there was any way to make the screen brighter.
When I compare my laptop screen to my dell lcd ultrasharp moniter it seems really dim and from what I remember my screen might've been brighter before but of course I have no way of confirming that.

Any help is appreciated.

Brightness turned all the way up with Fn+Home?

Also remember, your screen won't go quite as bright on battery power as it will on AC unless you specify so in the thinkpad configuration tool

Did all that and whatever I could find that could turn up brightness but sometimes it still seems dim.
Anyway to make it brighter then it's max?

No, 'fraid not

I'm usually quite happy with the brightness though, plenty sufficient, unless you're trying to work outside or with a ton of glare on your screen

Isn't there a BIOS setting under display for brightness with two options, Normal and High - or something to that effect?

Does this do anything to help?

This setting is only for battery power.

It's also available under Thinkpad Configuration, depending on your model and version:

I think you need replace the LCD's light.The longer time you used the dimmer you see.

Wish I had another thinkpad to compare it with, but alas I do not.

how do i access "Thinkpad Configuration"? i have an x22 with a screen way too dim for outside (batt power) use.

It is in one of two locations.
(1) Start > All Programs > Access IBM > IBM ThinkPad Configuration.
(2) Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage > ThinkPad Configuration.

If you don't have it, download it from here:

Configuration utility for Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP - ThinkPad General

After downloading, double-click on 7fu501aw.exe file to extract it's contents, then run Software Installer or double-click on SETUP.EXE in the C:\DRIVERS\W9x\UTILITY\ directory to install.

Or ... press ACCESS IBM button, click the top-level Configure menu, open up "Manage your display," then click "LCD display settings." This works on my T40, YMMV.

gonna hafta d/l that exe. no access ibm button, no links in start | all programs. there is a thnkpad button, but it doesn't seem to do anything. thanks for the link.

Interesting. That was one part of Access IBM I haven't tried before. That little program has more than meets the eye at first glance. However, if I am not mistaken, what it is doing here is opening a subitem of ThinkPad Configuration. If you don't have ThinkPad Configuration installed, I doubt if it will work.

I could be totally wrong on this but I recall their being a BIOS option you can set for this on my t41p.

Dunno if this applies for other t4x models.

Yes, there is a BIOS setting to reduce brightness when on battery power or leave the same. This is independent of the power scheme settings.

However, if the supervisor password has been set, someone without this password will not be able to enter the BIOS menu to change this setting.

Yep, that's what it's accessing.

Yes, those IBM applications are pretty handy like that. Not having them installed makes configuration a bit harder. Of couse, some people like to remove them, thinking they're "bloatware." To each his/her own.
