Can't turn on bluetooth after Intel 9.0.4.13 2200BG upgrade

T43p.

Even after repeating myself "if ain't broke, don't fix it" quite many times, I finally had to try to update the wi-fi driver for a very weird problem I was seeing so I ended up with the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG drivers v. 9.0.4.13.

(this doesn't relate to my current question: the problem was that my VMWare Player Fedora Core 5 box was loosing network connection when sending too many packets. After few days of struggle I found out the problem was due to the Check Point SecuRemote driver. Unbinding it from the wireless card solved the problem).

So basically I found myself with a new wireless driver (which I actually like and works fine) but with no bluetooth anymore! I'm not the only one with this problem (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 299#162299), but I really would like to solve it. I'd like to follow some tip rather that going in an even worse situation trying different things.

At the moment if I press Fn+F5 I get this message: ThinkPad Fn+F5 Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I don't have Access Connection at the moment, and I can live without it.

BTW: I also found a temporary workaround... Looking at old posts I found out that Fn+F5 is just used to launch a program, so I looked for that program in my disk and I found several different TPFNF5.EXE. I found that one of them is still capable of switching my on and off Bluetooth! In details: C:\DRIVERS\HOTKEY\OSD\COMMON\TPFNF5.EXE
Now when I launch this, it cannot switch my wifi, but at least I can use it to switch Bluetooth, and switch on and off wifi using the new Intel driver.

So question is: is there a way to restore a working Fn+F5 for both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi?

Thank you.

New BT driver

I have been resisting the temptation to go to latest Wi-Fi driver but I did go to the new BT driver (The integrated BT IV driver is now gone and I have some new high speed BT driver now). Everything is fine now (suddenly I can now use my T43's headset to recieve calls from my Nokia 6670....cool!!)

May be you should try the new BT Driver

Why not go back to IBM supported drivers?

Cheers,

Bill

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Oh, sorry, wrong audience. ;)

Alfonso, I would suggest to stay with the IBM drivers - for me that proved to be hassle-free.

So uninstall the Intel-SW first. Then try to remove Access Connections, and the IBM Bluetooth SW (reboot after each) and reinstall all (Bluetooth first, WLAN and AC at last, reboot afer each). Use the ThinkVantage Software Installer for removal and installation.

That should do the trick.
