T43 not shutting down when attached to mini dock station

#1 Post by djrampage7 » Tue May 23, 2006 1:46 pm

Hi all,

I'm having a problem where my Lenovo T43's will not shut down when they are docked on the min-dock. The machine will start the shut down process, save its settings, etc, but then reaches the blue screen (not the blue screen of death, but rather the blue screen that is present after every shut down), and just freeze at that point.

This doesnt happen when the machine is undocked. I've tried multiple machines and multiple docking and get the same problem.

I've updated to the latest drivers and the latest microsoft patches.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Anyideas on how to resolve?

Thanks!

Just to be sure -- you're using the mini-dock, not the port replicator, right?

Yep, I'm using the Mini-Dock.

I can only guess -- and I really mean guess -- that it's something to do with the USB hub in the mini-dock.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix it? Are there any new usb drivers out there that I could try?

I note that sometimes shutdown while docked takes a considerable time, subjectively. Like ... 45 seconds? It can depend on USB peripherals connected.

That said, try shutting down after disconnecting all USB devices (do the EasyEject action first, for things like hard drives). See if it takes less time. Also, something I prefer to do, is log out, THEN shutdown ... or just hibernate. See if you have better luck hibernating.

More than anything, I suspect you may have some service, driver, or third party application which may take longer than normal to "cease." Windows doesn't always alert you to these, but you could find evidence in the Event Viewer (EVENTVWR.MSC).

Create a new thread, please. This is a thread about problems shutting down WITH a dock/port replicator.
