Does Recover to Factory Contents format the drive?

#1 Post by lvlolvlo » Thu Aug 05, 2004 2:25 am

When you initiate the recover to factory contents, does it format the harddisk? I have done the recover to factory contents a couple of times, and all I see it doing is copying the files from the recover image into the hd and then expanding them whilst installing them via DOS. Any clues as to if it does format the hard disk or not?

I have used the recovery disks twice on my T42, and each time it repartitions the disk back to the way that it wants the disk to be. So yes, it formats the partitions, because otherwise, it would not be able to use them.

Actually, it depends on which set of CDs you have. The ones for my T41 do NOT reformat the entire drive, they simply wipe out ONLY the first partition.

i am aware that it won't format the entire drive or it will loose the recovery partition. my question is that does it format the main system partition or does it kill it create it and write to it. thanks for the reply.
