"express model" pricing -- as good as it gets?

#1 Post by mpease » Thu Aug 05, 2004 9:50 am

Hi all -
I'm generally happy with my T42. Especially now that it has the Thai keyboard. But dissatisfaction is creeping in.... the wireless isn't working well -- constant hangups with my router. Fan noise is bugging me. & now I'm intrigued by the possibility of an X32 with a 1.4 Ghz chip.

So, I'm thinking of returning my T42, buying an X32 later, if it comes along.

What I'd like to know is... are these "express model" prices something extraordinary for IBM? I paid 1525 for a 2378DUU. Was that a great, unattainable ever again price? Or might I get a similar offer if I were to wait 5 or 6 months?

Thank you all -
Matt

There won't be an X32, but you can expect to see an X41 with the 1.4ghz LV and the 1.1ghz ULV Pentium M.

IBM will likely continue offering Express model configurations but I doubt the 15% off mastercard/visa glitch that happened with the T42 will happen again with the T43.

What kind of router?
I have a Netgear and it works great. At my friends house with his Linksys, it doesn't work as well. I guess it's something with Linksys.

It could also be the environment you're in. If you have cordless phones, what kind? I had 2.8 and 900mhz phones and I had trouble at the other side of my house. I upgraded to 5.4ghz and no problems at all now.

1. Make sure you are using the latest Drivers for your 2200BG Card (You probably are OK on this, but check)
2. Upgrade to the latest Access Connections - This is almost certainly needed.
3. Stop andDisable Wireless Zero Config service
4. Try a few different wireless channels (I use 8 now indtead of 6 or 11.)

If you do all of this, you probably will be good to go!

Prior to these fixes my connection was flakey, and would drop transfer rate from 11mbps to 1mbps despite good signal strength.

Since doing these fixes (Learned from this forum  ) My connection is rock steady! :D
