which motherboards can I use in my t41?

#1 Post by dyne » Sat May 27, 2006 12:15 am

Over winter break, my ferrets spilled a glass of water on the table my t41 was on, and there was water damage on the dock connector. Recently, the video on my thinkpad began screwing up (does the same thing on an external monitor - so Im guessing it's the video card/motherboard).

I have a T41 2379DJU. It had a 32mb radeon 9000 with the SXGA+ screen. I'm not terribly concerned about video performance, because I do no gaming or anything video related. My question is: will any T4x motherboard be compatible with my SXGA+ screen? The reason I ask is because I don't recall ever seeing a radeon 7500 video card paired with an SXGA+ screen.

Also, would my processor be compatible with T42 motherboards? I would guess not, since it's a banias core.

Yes, a T42 board with ATI Radeon 7500 will be compatible both with your SXGA+ screen and your processor.

I know that you are not looking for great graphics but anyway you may also use this:

39t5495 with 128MB FIRE GLT2 ati video memory
X32/2.0GHZ/2GB/ENGENIUS EMP-8602+S 600mw mini pci/WD 250GB
X60/1.83GHZ/2GB/Atheros/7K100

FYI: If you do get the board with the 128MB video card, you improve your chances of running the Aero Glass Interface feature with Windows Vista, if that interests you. Minimum requirement for Vista AGI is 128mb video.

I forgot to mention that you will also need to replace the fan with an M10 long fan to cool down the GPU. Mine cost me less than $20 in ebay.

That is very important.
