New owner of a t43p

#1 Post by OMsaaf » Sun May 28, 2006 10:00 am

Hi everyone,

After browsing many sites and forums (mainly this one) I set my mind on buying a T43p.
I could not believe my eyes when I had it. It is a real little jewel.

I have playing around with it, and found that the applications bundled by IBM are quite handy.

Nevertheless, I was wondering if I could disable or uninstall some of them without hindering the use of the laptop.

Have any of you, for example, disabled the recovery system and deleted the hidden partition ?
Have you deleted the 386 folder to gain some space.

Any suggestions would be higly appreciated

Regards

Omar

You could always create your rescue and recovery CDs, so that if you run into problems, you will have a perfect back up with the CDs.

As for the individual software, you could uninstall them with the Software Installer program, or the new one: System Updater. This will give you the ability to reinstall at a later point, as well.

Welcome to the forums, and congrats on your purchase - you're joining a niche crowd of people who demand excellence in our laptops.

If you haven't already, make the recovery CDs. You can actually put the first on a CD-R(W), and the rest can go on a second DVD-R(W).

Also, run Software Installer to ensure you have latest drivers, utilities etc. They're updated regularly.

Finally ... there have been 2-3 recent threads on just this same question. Searching the forums, and reading the FAQ, before posting a question can save you time. 8)

Hi Omar,

Yes I have deleted the R & R partition on both of my machines. The R & R partition is OK in principal but pretty much useless should the Hard Disk crash, on top of that you lose 5Go !

For backups and recovery I prefer Acronis.

Cheers Roy

If something makes the hard drive undergo a severe crash, then neither the Predesktop area nor the RnR disk set will help out. The situations where an on-drive recover system wouldn't be as useful as the RnR set are very rare.

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
