Problem updating the BIOS

#1 Post by cmarti » Sun May 28, 2006 1:29 pm

I installed the system update ans ran it and it says ther is a more recent version BIOS version for my pc i accept to download it and installed it.
But when it is about upgrade it comes with a message that says that an update for my bios is not required.

What could be happening? :?

Available version is:3.20
X32/2.0GHZ/2GB/ENGENIUS EMP-8602+S 600mw mini pci/WD 250GB
X60/1.83GHZ/2GB/Atheros/7K100

I posted elsewhere on this. System Update 2 is a pretty face on Update Connector, which never worked very well. Software Installer is a different and superior tool in just about every way. Some half-wit decided to discontinue Software Installer (so says the web page) and go with a defective tool instead. I think this is so, over the long haul, they won't bother to support this kind of tool. ... JD Hurst

I agree with you jdhurst. My wife just received a brand new T42 from Lenovo. System Update 2 only showed about 9 updates available - yet I know there were many more. It turns out there were about 2 dozen updates that System Update 2 did not display. Oddly enough, later it was showing a BIOS update that was the same version as the one already on the T42.

I uninstalled system update already... to bad to use. Didn't work.

Software installer was *very* well done.

I don't understand how they left a good product for an obviously inferior product... my guess is there's some licensing issue with software installer or something it depends on, and this is a quick save.

Thank goodness I keep all the drivers and software packages that I install. I'm getting very weary of updating my system now with these software installers since Lenovo took over - bad personal experiences and now hearing more and more people having problems as well. I suppose the old addage rings true: "if it ain't broke, don't fix".
