Just bought a T40; what wireless card to use?

#1 Post by mybellyisempty » Mon May 29, 2006 10:26 am

I just grabbed a T40 off ebay for my dad.

P M 1.6GHz, 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024X768) TFT LCD, 32MB ATI Radeon 7500, 24x-8x DVD, Wireless upgradeable(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro, warranty through 12/06.

for $525 shipped. I could have done better (specs wise) with another company, but I wanted a unit compatible with the IBM parts I have on hand (docking station, battery, dvd burner, etc.)

I'm going to pick up a wireless card for it....but I'm not entirely sure what the T40's limitations are, as it was their first Centrino/Pentium M laptops. I know that when it came out, the 2100B and AB were all that were available on the intel side; not sure on the Atheros side.

Can I use the 2200BG/2915ABG?
Which Atheros ABG could I look at?

It will be best if you stick to the 2200BG/2915ABG.

My opinion is that it is better than others.

I just need one that'll get the strongest signal possible; all other considerations (other than it being G) be [censored].

I have the 2200BG in my T42 (that's what it came with), and I am very happy with it. :D

I would go with either the 2200BG or the 2915ABG; I have the 2915ABG and it has performed very well thus far.

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Which did you go with and how is it working out? Just interested in the long term follow up on this. I've been using an IBM (Atheros) B/G card with great, solid success for well over a year.

I have put in the Atheros card. Great range, AND if you want to run Linux, you can use more features of this card if you want to... or need to.

Get an Atheros card!
