Reinstallation of Windows XP on T42

#1 Post by vinny77 » Mon May 29, 2006 6:23 pm

I have a freinds thinkpad T42, which needs to have Windows xp reinstalled. Its my judgement that there is enogh corrupt data and viruses that its just better off to reinstall and then thing is slow and a 3 legged horse.

I am looking into getting a T60 but dont own an ibm yet nor have ever used one.

I need to reinstall win xp, so I have a Install disk, but I need the thinkvantage and other drivers and stuff. He has none of this, like most he got the laptop and throgh everything out. so there are no recovery cds.

Where do I get the correct Thinkvantage software. for the
t42
2378
duu

I also thoght that there was a spare partition with IBM's thats allowed reinstallation and recovery.

Unless your friend foolishly destroyed everything, start, press F11, recover and Bob's your uncle.

Dying Battery + No power management; that and the many bits of spywayre/trojens/cruftware that you have found make a re-install from the hidden partition a very good proposition. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I think you got a dud machine. It is newer than mine and is in such bad condition, I would have to ask the original owner for money to take it off their hands. ... JD Hurst
