I'm continuing to read the threads and getting more information.
However, at this point, my choice for a second Thinkpad has boiled down to between the T23 (with built-in WiFi antenna) and a T40.
I will continue to use my Athlon1400+ desktop for anything CPU-intensive (like video editing and conversion), so the Thinkpad will be mostly for web browsing, email and Microsoft Word processing.
So, I don't think that any processing power improvement over the T23 will make a difference to me. In fact, LaptopLogic.com states:
and also:When the CPU is doing rudimentary tasks, such as web browsing, one can not notice a difference between an 800MHz processor and a 2000MHz processor.
But, battery life is an important factor. And, size, weight, build quality, and especially keyboard quality are all important factors. When performing basic 2D tasks, such as web browsing or other tasks, the performance of the graphics card makes no difference. Therefore, it is in your best interest to turn down the power of the graphics card to increase battery life. The most effective way to accomplish this is to lower the clock speed of the graphics card core and memory.
Lastly, the laptop will be used 99% of the time with WiFi, so reception is an important factor, hence the following quote from another thread captured my attention:
Is this true ? If so, it might be a significant reason to get a T40 instead.4. The antennas in the T23 are pretty weak, and my T40 with the same wireless card in the MPCI slot gets MUCH, MUCH better reception
Thanks for any insights!
