T40 Wireless Upgrade Problem

#1 Post by sevenx » Thu Jun 01, 2006 3:44 pm

I recently purchased a used T40 (2373 - 14U) from the IBM Used equipment site.

I purchased a mPCI upgrade card from a reputable eBay dealer I've seen mentioned a few times on this forum (p/n 93P3475) and installed it as per the instructions from the Lenovo/IBM site.

I've updated my BIOS and installed the latest drivers, but no matter what I try the device shows in Device Manager (XP SP2) with a Yellow Exclamation point.

Any insights would be most apprciated.

Thanks!

cmarti,

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried it out and did not have any luck. I believe that the card I bought (93P3475) is the ThinkPad branded card. I've tried the IBM/Lenovo drivers a few times as well without any positive results.

Any other suggestions ?

:D :D :D

Maybe try with another card or try that card in another pc. The seller is good but the card may be faulty.

It's possible that model card is not supported by your BIOS version. Make sure you have the latest BIOS and Embedded controller versions.

I've just upgraded both the BIOS and the Embedded Controller to their most recent versions and am still experiencing the same problem. :(

Do you have the Wireless Card enabled in the BIOS?
Access IBM Help - BIOS Setup Menu wrote:If you select "Enabled," you can turn the internal wireless radio on or off. If you select "Disabled," the internal wireless device is hidden from the OS.
Do you show any conflicts under Resources in Device Manager?

Wireless Card in enabled in the BIOS and there are no conflicts in Device Manager.

With show hidden devices checked, only PMEM and the Wireless Card are showing with Yellow Exclamation points.

When you double-click on the Wireless Adapter (under Network Adapters) in Device Manager, then click on the Resources tab, in the Conflicting device list does it show anything?

I have a different card than you, but my Intel 2200bg card uses the following resources: Memory range C0214000 - C0214FFF and IRQ 11.

I was able to track down an Intel 2100 B card and install it in the machine without problem.

I guess the 2373 - 14U isn't compatible with the card I bought.

A friend at work told me that no T40 models support G cards. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm thinking I might be better off trading the ThinkPad card I bought for an Intel 2200 BG card, but I want to ensure that it will work this time. :)

Thanks again for your help everyone!

I used a IBM a/b/g card in my T40 without any problems so there is no limit that prevent all G cards from working in a T40. I would assume that the Intel 2200bg will work fine in the T40 as well.

This is where I get confused. It seems the majority of the Intel 2200 BG cards on eBay say that they're not compatible with IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads.

Does anyone have the FRU number for the Intel BG card that will work with a T4X?

I went with the ThinkPad branded card because I thought it would work where the Intel one would not.

Also, I noticed that when I installed the Intel Card the boot screen showed the Centrino logo now rather than the stock Intel logo.

Is there any benefit to this?

FRU 93P3483 INTEL PRO WIRELESS 802.11B/G MINI-PCI AD

You need an IBM branded card to avoid the 1802 error. A card can be Intel and IBM branded. In other words, some Intel 2200bg cards are IBM branded, and some are not.

A laptop becomes a Centrino when it has the Intel Pentium M Processor, Intel Chipset, and Intel Wireless. It's just Intel marketing. Doesn't mean that much in the real world.
