Dilemma: Is the T43p its money worth here? (check specs)
Dilemma: Is the T43p its money worth here? (check specs)
Heyo Thinkpads.com
Used to be a frequent flyer here, but after I finished school I had to sell my beloved T41p.
The thing is, now im headed for college and studying to become an engineer. Therefore, a laptop is needed again. And of course, it had to be an IBM.
The thing is, the company I work in buy -alot- of IBM workstations and thinkpads. Therefore, I can get a good deal (pretty hard cutdown on price, and I get a 3-year next business day guarantee) on some specific setups. There are currently four differet machines to choose from, withing the sales agreement: an X41, two different T43's and the T43p.
Now, im going for a T4x and really am just interested in two models.
The first T43:
14,1" (1400x1050)
1,8GHz
60GB 7200
1GB RAM
X300 64MB
CDRW/DVD
Bluetooth
802.11 b/g
The T43p:
15" (1600x1200)
2,26 GHz
2GB RAM
80GB 7200
ATI V3200
Bluetooth
802.11 b/g
DVD-R (slim)
--
I would like to wait and get a T60p (V5000 and DUO) but I wont be around the company by the time they change in for the new models.
The T43p costs about 40% more than the T43, but is still cheap considering the market price.
I really liked the 14,1" on my previous T43p because of the high resolution and low weight and area. But again, the 15" 1600x1200 is truely great also. But I dont really like the bigger chassis.
I was actuallly going for the T43p at first, but heard that the V3200 is pretty daft - especially considering that the V5000 is on the market.
I would like to hear some personal experiences, maybe from someone who has enough to compare?
The laptop will be used for -some- CAD, but not alot. So if anyone has experience with the X300 in CAD relations, I would gladly like to hear from you.

IBM T60

If I'll have to choose, I'll go for the T43 because of the 14.1" form factor. I think SXGA+ it's ok for -some- CAD. Good luck with your purchase.

Its quite low, since the company gets quite a rebate on the machines. Not sure I can tell you the exact price, though.nirvana0001 wrote:could you tell me the actual price?

Based on the fact that I wont be doing much CAD, I have chosen the T43.
Mainly because of the 14,1" form factor (the 1400x1050 screen is excellent, if you ask me). But also because the 1,8GHz and 60GB7200 disk should suit me fine. Along comes the lower price of course
I'll be adding another stick of 512MB RAM, and it should do fine.
Now all I need is for IBM to deliver
