Warranty T40

#1 Post by unicorn » Sun Jun 04, 2006 12:00 pm

I want to ask a question. My latop worked well after 2 years. And then it got mistake was lockup after 5 minutes of running. I went to a service center two times. But, after running a few hours it had the same problem. So, I changed to an other service center. The problem was solved. Now, it is still running perfectly after 3 months of using.

But, I lost IBM's warranty. When I look for the warranty status in the Acess IBM or even in their website, I had "machine information not found in database", and "Information for Warranty was not found. Please click back and try again or you may navigate clicking on 'Warranty' ", respectively.
I think that three times sending the latop to the servic center was tired enough. But, they were plus no-warranty. It is terrible. :(

You can check: 99KDFFH. Before, the warranty status is to 25.03.2007. But I still thanks for repairing (three times) and hope the latop doesn't wrong again.

Can the IBM service center remove my warranty status after three times of service? Do you think they din't find the real fault at first two times?

The IBM center did NOT remove the warranty. What happened is that your motherboard was replaced and the Service Center forgot to enter your old machine type and Serial Number into the BIOS of the new motherboard.

There is a special utility with which the service centers can enter that information into the BIOS of a new motherboard.

You have two options if you want to correct the issue:
1) Return the machine to the service center that replaced the motherboard and ask them to enter the information into the BIOS. They can find the machine type and Serial Number on the bottom of the unit.

2) Enter the information into the BIOS yourself. For that you need a USB floppy drive from which to boot and the IBM Hardware Maintenance Utility (Ver. 1.73 or higher).

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I checked everything.
It was really lost the warranty status. Because, the machine type was nochange "2374HG0", and they called me to confirm. The reason was my latop wasn't steady...cover or something wasn't good. However, I bring it to my university everyday, I go by bus then by underground train. It seems can not wrong again.
