Strange sudden power loss

#1 Post by atomz4peace » Tue Jun 06, 2006 11:11 am

I have a 5 month-old T43 2686. It has started having random power failures...but not so random really.

I have seen it only on 2 conditions. I put it in standby from a port replicator. Sometimes when I try to resume w/o the port rep, it will have died in the meantime.

Most of the time I see the power loss, I go to resume by pushing the Fn button. The power light comes on, then everything goes blank.

One the power is out, I can NOT start it again without removing the battery and the power. I tried the power discharge and it might have helped for a week, but it's back now.

IBM support had no idea and sent a return box, but I can't be without the system right now.

Anyone seen this before? Thanks!

I don't have a port replicator or a dock, but from what I have seen, Standby does not normally like hardware changes - while in Standby. Try not plugging in or unplugging anything other than the AC adapter while in Standby.

However there is at least one exception that I am aware of. That is with a ThinkPad 600E with Windows 2000. To remove the optical drive from the laptop while it is turned on, the Safely Remove Hardware button puts the laptop into Standby.
