NON-IBM wifi on T4X series?

#1 Post by scosgt1 » Fri Aug 06, 2004 7:17 pm

Can anyone confirm that the Agere wifi card will work in the "BIOS locked" T4X series?
If so, I have a source for 802.11b cards that are MUCH cheaper than the IBM variety.
PLEASE DO NOT PM
My handheld device can not access PM's and I will not respond.

It works on a Bios locked X31 (found as a 3rd PCMCIA card and not as PCI card) so I assume it would work on a T4x as well, but I cannot tell for sure.

As a rule, they won't. This is a decision IBM made for FCC compliance. Only IBM-spec Mini PCI cards will work on the Txx series (I would think that applied to the Xxx series also?). Check back on this forum. I don't recall anyone having any succes.

Wow, that's great - it can be hacked! Personally, though, verging onthe lazy side of the MBPT, I think I'd just spend the extra $20-$30 and get the IBM cards!

on a related subject, am I better off buying a new TXX with a/b/g versus b alone? Can the b card be replaced with a/b/g, or are they integrated. I ask coming from desktop background, where I'm very comfortable building out white box systems.

I think I'd prefer to have the a/b/g installed at the factory, unless it's an easy mod.
