Where is the R&R backup stored?
Where is the R&R backup stored?
Just made a backup of everything to my local hard drive, can anyone tell me where the backup is stored? Im trying to find out how the whole R&R thing works and how much disk space it takes for the backups.
Try http://publib-b.boulder.ibm.com/Redbook ... 46060.html
for the full description.
The files used are stored in a hidden partition, depending upon your laptop. If you go to Control Panel/ System Hardware tab/device find Diskdrives and select your internal drive. Look at drive properties and then volume tab (may need to click the populate button) This will eventually show you that there are two partitions on your hard drive. (IBM_PRELOAD (C:) and SERVICEV001 and my T43) The re-install data is all in the smaller, hidden partition.

IBM ThinkPad T43-2668-F5G,
T41p-2373-GEG & a T61-6466-9YG

That is not correct. If you look at the document IBM Rescue and Recovery Deployment GuideVersion 2.0 you will see that the backups YOU MAKE with R&R are in the C: partition. They are just hidden. IIRC, it is possible to boot up into Safe Mode and view them, but you have to change security permissions first.Nick Y wrote:The files used are stored in a hidden partition, depending upon your laptop.

DKB
I've heard that the C:\R&R files are fragmented, and mine sits about 33% on my 60 GB HDD (ie: something rarely used is sitting on my faster drive's real estate).
***Is there any way to move these files to the back of my HDD?
eg: *MAYBE* go into Windows Safe Mode, remove R&R protection, defrag, add back R&R protection, and reboot?
Will above work?
