Win XP Service Pack 2 on T42p OK

#1 Post by WilsonF » Sat Aug 07, 2004 10:07 am

I installed the release version of SP2 on my T42p with the IBM preload. Nothing is broken that I can see. However, you have to allow the IBM update connector to access the internet. I am sure there will be other similar issues, but none are seriously inconvenient. Those with Norton Antivirus 2004 that came with the system should wait to install the XP Service Pack until Symantec issues patches for its AV software on 8/10. As far as I can tell, the AV programs work, but are not recognized as working by the new Windows Security Center (we should be so lucky) so you get some distressing "you are naked in the mall" messages.

Where did you get SP2? I want to download the entire file and apply it to several systems. Can't find it on MS's site - I must not be looking hard enough!

Think I'll wait another month or so before installing SP-2...

kjarret,

You can download the service pack if you are a MSDN subscriber.
I heard the service pack will be available for general download
over the next few days.

Actually you can get it early from here, this is the RTM version that should be out in the next week or so. But make sure you backup before installing it, there could be a real reason why MS hasn't officially released it yet....

Benz,

Latest word I've read in the MSDN forums is that the RTM is no longer ready for prime time.

I'd wait a bit before installing RC2.

JHEM - Yeah i'd heard that too, they were originally gonna have it RTM by the 4th, and then to the web the next day....but obviously that didnt happen....personally i'm taking the same approach with SP2 as I do with all other MS updates - wait a week or so after it comes out and let others do the guinea pig testing!
