2378-FVU motherboard compatibility
2378-FVU motherboard compatibility
I wish I had heard of this forum a couple of weeks ago.
The motherboard on my T42 is fried and needs to be replaced. It's the same symptoms I've read many posts about, the laptop freezes when you touch or move it. It's out of warranty, so I guess I'm going to have to go ahead and replace the motherboard myself.
My question is about compatible motherboards. Can I just pick any motherboard for a T4x series computer and install it? Or are there certain specs that I need to look at?
I am mainly looking at these two motherboards off of ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 6890610225
and
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 6891630117
Your guidance is highly appreciated.

Any T40/T41/T42 motherboard will work and both of the motherboards you show will work.
T43 motherboards will fit but will NOT work with your other components from the old board (e.g., memory, processor, PC Card slot).
Note that not all motherboards can accept all Pentium-M processors. You should make certain that your processor can run on the motherboard that you select. The issue is the FSB (Front Side Bus) speed of the processor vs. the motherboard.
Also make sure that the memory you have can run on the motherboard you select.

Not true. The processor will work just in fine in a T43 board.EOMtp wrote:Any T40/T41/T42 motherboard will work and both of the motherboards you show will work.

Yes but only at 400FSB reducing the speed of the processor. But it will work.brentpresley wrote:Not true. The processor will work just in fine in a T43 board.EOMtp wrote:Any T40/T41/T42 motherboard will work and both of the motherboards you show will work.

No duo processors will work in any T4x laptop..jhonyl wrote:How about a Core Duo motherboard? Will that fit in the box? (I know - it will need new memory and CPU, and maybe HD too? Is it SATA on the new boards?)
