Is the price for this T42 legitimate?
Is the price for this T42 legitimate?
Hello.
I'd like to know if you think that the price for this ThinkPad T42 is legitimate? I got that offer a few days ago and am considering to buy this one.
Heres the ThinkPad:
IBM ThinkPad T42
Pentium M 1,7 GHz (Dothan)
TFT SXGA 1400x1050 (14,1")
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500, 32 MB
RAM 1024 MB PC2700 DDR
HDD 80 GB, 5.400 Seagate Momentum
DVD LW
WinXP Prof.
The price is 1380 Euros, which is should be around 1220.28 US Dollar if I'm calculating that correctly...
Thank you very much for any comments!
Greetings,
Canuck

as ronald regan used to say "trust, but verify"..
most famously to gorbachev..

Hello. Thank you for your your answer. This is really a serious distributor and not ebay. The shop is an official IBM/Lenovo partner and has special education offers.
The Seagate HDD was chosen by me since it is possible to choose which drive you want to be integrated in the ThinkPad. Standard was a Hitachi 40 GB, but I decided to go with the 80 GB Seagate Momentus because it got some really good reviews.
So what do you think of the price?
Regards,
Canuck

The really huge difference, is that a T42 has a 32MB Radeon 7500 Graphics card, while the T42p has a 128MB ATI FireGL (corresponding to the Radeon 9600 chip, I think).
If you want to do some gaming on your laptop, go with the p-model, otherwise, don't bother.
BTW, I can recommend the Seagate drive, if it's a 5400.3

T400, WXGA+, Core2Duo 8400, 4GB RAM, 256MB ATI switchable graphics, 256Gb Crucial M4 SSD
I think the offer is ok, but then again, I don't know the German market.
If it was here in Denmark, it would be ok. The SXGA screen and the Seagate HDD (others probably won't agree on this part), does make the offer more attractive.
Yeah, I think the price is ok

Probably this is a better deal in the USA ...
IBM ThinkPad T43
Pentium M 1,8 GHz (Dothan)
TFT SXGA 1600x1200 (15" flexview)
ATI Mobility Radeon FireGL, 64 MB
RAM 1024 MB PC2700 DDR
HDD 80 GB, 5.400 Seagate Momentum
DVD-4 Burner
WinXP Prof.
Lenovo USA is running a "Dads and Grads" promotion on their website at $1699 after a $200 rebate, it's good until the end of the month. If you're in the USA, or if you have a friend in the USA, the screen is bigger and it includes a multi-burner, and its straight from Lenovo, what could be simpler ?? I'd go with the product direct from Lenovo.

The deals are always better in the US, for various reasons (this does not only apply to computers).
Unfortunately, some of us are not located there
And it would not only suffice to have a friend in the US, you would need to have a friend in the US who was going back to Europe soon. If you send equipment like that to Denmark, the customs services will open the package and add 25% VAT for starters... Plus there is the extra €68 for a new keyboard with local layout.

Aren't T43 using PC4200 DDR ? I thought all T43 are built around 533 FSB running PC4200 DDR (at least mine and all other T43 I saw)..systemBuilder wrote:IBM ThinkPad T43

ATI x300, 1GB RAM, 40 GB HDD, all the connectivity (except of Bluetooth), DVD/CD-WR Combo...
Still excited about this great machine...
