differences between ATI 7500 32mb and 9600 in T42?

#1 Post by Imran » Sun Aug 08, 2004 6:08 am

Hi

What are peoples experiences regarding the 7500 32mb and the 9600.

Does the 7500 32mb mean extra battery life.

I wont be playing any games on my T42 ? but will a 32mb 7500 graphics card limit me?

T42 primarily for college and research ,share dealing, etc..

My suspicion is that the 7500 consumes less power than the 9600. The 7500 has far fewer transistors than the 9600 and runs at a slower clockspeed (I don't know the exact frequencies that the IBM BIOS allows for). Also, the 32 MB of memory on the 7500 probably consumes less power than the 64 MB of memory on the 9600.

The 7500 doesn't heat up much - it doesn't have anything to assist in heat dissipation.

If you don't play games, the 7500 won't hinder you at all. I use my ThinkPad for office work, and the 7500 has never been a problem.

Since all the modern notebook graphic chips can turn off their 3D-Engine when not in use, you will not see much of a difference in power consumption during office use. I expect that in this case, having a 7500 or a 9600 will make at most one or two percent difference to the running time.
