So weird.
It's the same here with all of my machines. Funny thing, I didn't even notice that before stumbling across your post.

Best regards,

Yep, noticed that myself this afternoon too. Also gone is the "Copyright 1994-2001, Microsoft" notice. The XP boot screen seems to have been simplified a bit :)

Haha, I never noticed the copyright notice until after I installed SP2..

Quick question.

I did a search for topics relating to SP2 and couldn't find the answer to my question.

I'm going to be ordering my T42 2373-CWU soon, and after reading different discussions, I think that I would prefer to play it safe and, for the time being, *not* have SP2 installed on my T42.

For current ThinkPad orders, is IBM pre-installing SP2, or are they leaving that up to the customer ?
And if IBM *is* pre-installing SP2, do you think it would be possible for me to put in a request with the salesperson that it not be installed ?

don't think IBM is now.... when they do, they will have worked out most of the issues... in any case, once it starts, you can't order differently...

Thank you for the info.
What I wonder is if Microsoft will make it so that future security updates for XP will require that (i.e. will only work if) SP2 is installed.

even Microsoft won't purposely "make it that way". However, some future updates might be dependent (technically) on SP2.

T40P/1.6Pm/512

I installed SP2 on my machine (before any other programs over the factory load). There is zero problem, none, zip, nada! I used the full SP2 download. Once again: everything works, wireless, norton, logo, everything. I updated to the newest available BIOS before and the newest available EMBEDDED CONTROLLER stuff.

I had only one Problem: Bootvis didn't work anymore after SP2. It always came up with a read memory error. After a fresh install with a SP2 Slipstream CD everything was fine again.

I had a problem with my RSA SecurID key client to login to work from home, but MS has released a hotfix.

Seems to be working fine now.
