T42 (non "p") 15" screen question

#1 Post by sktn77a » Sun Aug 08, 2004 1:34 pm

Well, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on getting the T42 before the end of today. It's down to a T42P (Fire 128mb) vs at T42 (9600 64mb). Is the 15" 1400x 1050 screen a flexview like the 1600x1200 screen?

Thanks

Keith

Mine is Keith - and I'm more than a little happy with it - at native resolution (14 x 10) it's really quite superb - ok, not terribly objective I know !

Thanks Ian. That's pretty much the spec I'm looking at. I was wondering about the drive - 80gig but only 5400rpm. Have you been happy with the speed of disk activities or do you lust for a 7200rpm drive?

I have both 15" screens 1400x1050 and 1600x1200. Both are great!

However, I see that you have the 2379-DKU (an XGA right?).
I went from a 1024x768 to a 1400x1050 ad in a few days I was sure I would never will go back in resolution a bit. I decided to go for more and I'd got the 1600x1200... still happy, but I see that I would not get a bit of resolution more...

In conclusion, if you know the 1400x1050 and want more, go for it, but if you have no worked with that resolution and you are no a hardcore coder, pick that 1400x1050. You will be delighted!
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

About the HDD, for most users would recommed the 80GB. Only those that want to grasp that milisecond on speed would recomend the slightly extra heat/vibration of the 60GB.

To be honest Keith I don't think I would really notice the difference if I had a 7200rpm drive - for the work (!!) I do, I really don't think it'd be worth the extra dosh. The space available, however, with an 80Gb is pretty daunting...
