T41p "DVD/CD-RW Combo" DVD+RW compatibility

#1 Post by would » Thu Jun 22, 2006 2:00 am

Hi,

i have a T41p 2373-GEG and one problem with my Toshiba Combo Drive (don't know the exact modell right now):
Today i tried to read two DVD+RW with my Thinkpad. But it didn't work.
Then i used "Nero Info Tool" and it said that my drive would only read DVD-RW and not +RW.

Are there any possibilities to read +RW Media with this drive? (flash bios upgrade, RPC1 Firmware...)

Thanks a lot!

If you have a burner that can do bitsetting, you can try changing the booktype to DVD-ROM from DVD+RW:

I had the same problem with my built-in drive (MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-812) and just gave up. I purchased a Plextor PX-740UF external for about $100 and am now a whole lot happier.

thanks for your answers - but i think the bittsetting thing only works with dvd-burners when burning a dvd.

Yes and bitsetting only works with certain burners, but since you are trying to read a DVD+RW, you or someone else must have burn to it first. When burning the DVD+RW, you can bitset the booktype to DVD-ROM, then maybe your combo drive can read it. For DVD+RW, the booktype can be changed even after it has been burned.
