laptop tipped over off table....lcd woes

#1 Post by meksta » Fri Jun 23, 2006 1:29 pm

my t42 tipped off the table and fell about 3 feet onto carpet. The screen hit first and then slammed shut. It still works fortunately.

The only thing that is bothering me is that the LCD screen blanks out occasionally (due to movement). And then if I tap the chassis it'll blink back on. Sometimes with little artifacts.

But if I leave the computer running 3dmark, and not touch it everything runs fine with no glitches. So the gpu and cpu is ok.

Do you think maybe the "LCD ribbon" cable is loose from the fall? Or are there other issues?!?!

seems like a connection problem. Maybe try to reseat the cable. If it is under warranty, you may contact IBM first to avoid the possibility of voiding your warranty.

Too bad, I had the exact same thing, laptop fell and image disappeared regularly since then. Luckily, the machine was i warranty and I was able to get it repaired, new mo-bo.

That's a good idea, maybe/hopefully it's just a loose connection/cable, or something else easy-to-fix...

I think you will end up replacing the mobo.

Loose wire conection? No i don't think that is what is causing the trouble.

yeah i believe my motherboard is screwed...atleast occasionally. I never crash or anything but the graphics will get screwed up.

How much to get a T42 motherboard? How much will it be to have IBM swap it?
