Wireless experts...Please help!! Desperate!

#1 Post by tseeee » Mon Aug 09, 2004 2:20 pm

I already had another post dealing with wireless. But things are going too well for me. I really need some help from the experts here. So to keep things simple, let me rephrase my situation:

1) Got my laptop, wireless working (using Windows instead of Access Connection) fine with my router. But keeps getting disconnected every now and then.

2) So I decide to try access connection...from reading the forum, I did these 2 things: disable "wireless zero configuration" and "Use Windows to configure my network connection". got connected

3) However, I decide I'll go back to Windows, just cuz I have been moving around and did not want to set up profile all the time. So I enable the 2 things i mentioned above.

4) Wireless not working anymore. What i mean is...it is connected to my router, but no data is transferred. (I did not do anything to the router since I got it to work the first time I tried it) I tried changing the channel, but still nothing happened

5) So I decide to try at places like Starbucks with the Tmobile hotspot...it connected to it (like the page about signing up, troubleshooting, etc), but i didn't sign up since i was just testing.

6) So i thought everything is working...so I headed to my school, where there is wireless everything. Problem turns up...it didn't even detect the network. The person next to me is working fine with his wireless. I am still using Windows...but also tried using Access connection. nothing shows up.

Can anyone help me here? Would it be a hardware problem? My wireless 2200bg seems to be worknig, with the latest driver. I'm not very familiar to wireless networking. so any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

My suggestions.

#1. Upgrade Access connections to Version 3.21

#2. Disable the Windows XP Wireless Config Utility service.
(Start, Control Panel, Admin. Tools, Services. DISABLE. STOPPED)

#3. REBOOT ROUTER, and then the PC.

#4. Make sure that you adapter is properly configured for DHCP.

I had a few problems with Access Connections, but after doing this, it works great. Access connections may come in handy if you travel or roam on different systems, or use static IP addresses. It is much easier than manually changing the adapter settings.

One other thing, make sure that you have up to date drivers on your wireless card. If you have the Intel 2200BG, you are probabably up to date already.
