Whether to upgrade CPU on T40?

#1 Post by PaulS » Fri Jun 30, 2006 8:30 pm

Can anyone who has upgraded their CPU from a Pentium M 1.6 GHz CPU (Banias) to a Pentium 2.15 GHz CPU (Dothan) tell me what percentage of improved performance compared with the slower CPU they have observed. Specifically, can the Thinkpad now display high definition video without dropping frames?

The other area where I would like improved performance is in using CAD software.

Is the bootup time for Windows XP Pro any faster?

I want to know if the improved performance would justify the $400+ CDN price for the faster CPU.

I have a 237392U Thinkpad T40.

Personally adding more RAM and upgrading to a faster hard drive (7200rpm) will prove more cost effective and yield better results.

what if one had a 7200rpm hd, t41p mobo, 640mb ram but only 1.6ghz cpu (banias core) would it upgrading ram be more beneficial in these conditions or cpu upgrade do more?
