Re: Recommend me: good bookbag to carry laptop + textbooks
I'm debating getting either something like that or a separate laptop case and then my regular backpack, cant decide. Would a T42p be safe in that thing, providing I dont throw it around, etc? I currently have a similar model to the linked one, except the laptop slides in through the side. While it does have pretty good padding, it doesnt seem too safe for the laptop. Cant comment on that one though, would love to hear opinionsdevilsrejection wrote:I was thinking this: http://www.ebags.com/jansport/pc_port/p ... elID=15694
any other ideas?

I am a fan of Tim Buk 2 bags.

I have an older model and I have to say it is really strong and VERY water proof. If you live in a wet area (I live in Seattle) it is really nice to know your laptop is going to stay dry. [/url]

I've got an Ogio Metro that I've been using to lug around my iBook (until tomorrow when my Thinkpad arrives). I've used a bunch of backpacks and sling bags... Up until the Ogio my favorite was a sling bag that Microsoft gave away at a PDC. The Ogio has the capacity to hold a bunch of stuff and has places for most of the chargers, cables, books, magazines, digital cameras (OK, it's really small), PDAs, iPods and such I tend to carry around.devilsrejection wrote:decided on this http://www.ebags.com/ogio/metro/product ... &N=2003825

It's a well put together backpack but it's a little weird at first to put the laptop into the side of the bag. Suffice it to say that since I got the Metro, unlike all of the other bags I've tried, I haven't been wishing for some feature it doesn't deliver... YMMV.
Re: Recommend me: good bookbag to carry laptop + textbooks
I have a Targus backback bag that I really like but my concern would be the weight of the textbooks pressing on the lid since the laptop is on the flat part closest to my back and everything else is stacked on top.devilsrejection wrote:

On the upside, my bag has 2 large zippered pockets, a couple smaller ones, and some mesh pockets on the sides.
I wish the padding was a bit thicker on the bottom of the bag where the sides of the laptop end up.

My crumpler messenger/laptop bag is awesome. Ive carried my laptop and a tivo in there once.
I got mine on sale at rei outlet, for like 40 bucks.(orig 139 or something crazy). None are on sale at rei now, but having this bag, id pay 100+ for it.
Only bad thing is that its only one strap like every msgr bag, but are you gonna use both straps when u caryy books anyway on a backpack?

I got the Rafter as well. It's an EXCELLENT choice for the t42. It's also 2300 cu in of storage space, which is plenty for large textbooks or notebooks. Also, I like the fact that the laptop sleeve covers the entire computer and it's raised off the bottom - which lets you add more padding underneath if you want.benz wrote:Excellent choice, my friend! I have this as well, and have been taking my thinkpad back and forth to school for about a month now and no problems. It is very well built, and the thinkpad has great protection.
Also, the $31 price is just unbeatable.

Kenn or sufyan - Have you used yours much since you bought it? I mean like a lot of walking with a full load (thinkpad, books, etc)? Reason I'm asking is because I have actually found it more comfortable to remove those plastic/composite reinforcement frame bars from the inside back of the bag.....but I'm wondering what negative effect (if any) this might have on my back, the thinkpad, the bag....what are your thoughts if you've looked into this?Kenn wrote:I got the Rafter as well. My suggestion is to look at www.brenthaven.com for your bag. I've had one of their expandable cases for four years. It held up wonderfully, but eventually a zipper failed. I called them up, and they told me to send the bag in. Three days later, a brand new bag arrived on my doorstep.
Absolutely top quality materials and customer support.

I'm actually trying to find a good sling-bag, but looking for one online doesn't really help, since I can't try it.
Does anyone have any recommendations for those? It doesn't have to have a laptop compartment, that's not that important. Not a messenger bag, but the one strap bags that fit on diagonally...I think they're called sling bags...

I have been using it everyday since I bought it(couple of months). Walking around 2 miles every week day. When not walking then backpacking it on the motorcycle.benz wrote:Kenn or sufyan - Have you used yours much since you bought it? I mean like a lot of walking with a full load (thinkpad, books, etc)? I still have those plastic (?) bars in the back of it. IMHO, they are there to protect the laptop while keeping the back of the bag straight. They are in a sleeve with a velcro thing on the top holding them in place. You could try removing them and seeing. Its pretty comfortable to me as is, so I havent looked into that.
