can't connect to network after re-plug the cable
here is my situation:
1. start the windows
2. un-plug the cable from ethernet port
3. shut down the thinkpad
problem occurs from here:
4. plug in the cable to ethernet port
5. start the computer
6. ethernet will be disable and can not enable, internet won't work
7. restart the computer
8. ethernet automatically enable and internet works.
anyone experienced with this?

Try the following:
However you do it, start the computer so that Internet is working and the wired NIC is enabled.
Unplug the ethernet cable, but do not turn off the computer, log off or do anything else. Just unplug the cable. The network icon in the system tray should either disappear or have a red X in it.
Now plug in the ethernet cable. The icon should appear or the red X should disappear. Possibly a little balloon will say "connected"
If the latter does not occur and you do not get reconnected, something is wrong with the port or with your network and TCP/IP installation or configuration.
If the last statement is true, try:
1. Uninstalling / reinstalling the NIC.
2. Repairing TCP/IP (I think you said you did)
3. Checking the cable company that you are not mixing up MAC's with other devices or computers - Cable companies bind their modems to specific MAC addresses and you cannot change them unless you know specifically what you are doing.
4. If all else fails, try reimaging (brutal step I do not recommend except as a truly last resort - come back here first).

That is most likely due to the network adapter shutting off to save power when there is no activity. It turns itself on again when packets are detected.nirvana0001 wrote:i tried it......the network totally functioning. weird huh?jdhurst wrote: Unplug the ethernet cable, but do not turn off the computer, log off or do anything else. Solution -
1. start the windows
2. not 3. shut down the thinkpad
3, not 2. un-plug the cable from ethernet port
This will solve all of your problems, but if you insist, try step 7...
"problem occurs from here:
4. plug in the cable to ethernet port
5. start the computer
6. ethernet will be disable and can not enable, internet won't work"
7. At this point are the lights on the ethernet port lighting up? If so, press START and then RUN, type in CMD and then press enter. Type: ipconfig /renew
Press the enter key.
