installing bluetooth fried my system

#1 Post by jonathanmedwards » Wed Aug 11, 2004 3:59 pm

Never having even turned on bluetooth on my T41-p, I installed the latest IBM bluetooth drivers. My system proceeded to melt down. It became unresponsive (start button dead) shortly after reboot. THe bletooth icon said "no bluetooth device". I was able to get into the control panel before it hung, and de-install the software. But now I still get hangs during startup, and I see in the event log that BTKRNL is failing to start. I disabled the BT support service, but that didn't help.

How do I remove this evil from my system?

Thx

Well, since I couldn't go backward, I tried going forward again and reinstalled the software. This time it worked. The exact same thing happened again as I installed Bluetooth on my older T30 - first install seemed to suceed but never did a reboot and was broken. Deinstalling and reinstalling fixed it. Install procedure seems broken.

I have a T42 and just got a BT mouse. No additional software installed, just turned on the BT radio and followed the prompts. No problems at all. I have Windows XP Pro SP1, I wonder if that is the difference?

No the difference is you are using the microsoft drivers, and they will work fine witha mouse, keyboard but that's about it. If you want the advanced features of bluetooth you will need to install the IBM bluetooth drivers.

Assuming you have win XP installed, each time you install a driver, a restore point is made, can't you simply roll back to before you screwed it up
