My T43 is hot and noisy

#1 Post by nshaw » Mon Jul 10, 2006 6:06 pm

I know I can find tons of posts about fan control, that's why it makes me confused. I'm new here and owner of thinkpad. Can anyone just tell me what program i should use and what the setting is to low the temperature and fan noise?

My T43 is 266876U P M 760 2GHz, thanks so much.

Have you made sure cpu is on adapter such that it clocks down to 800MHz on idle?

If cpu is already on adaptive, I am not sure if you can both silence and low temperature even with fan control. To cool down the machine more efficiently, the fan needs to turn faster. That usually means more noise.

Make a scheme in the Power Manger that specifies adaptive on AC and throttles everything back on DC battery. Then use the TP FCU if you want to.

Mine is cool and quite without TP FCU. :)

RMClock Utility + TPFan control
work perfectly to throttle down the multipliers voltage of your processor speed. Let say from 6x-14x multiplication.

That's what I use. Although rmclock is not the most user friendly, once you get it set up you don't have to mess with it again.

I have a problem with could be related to yours. When idle, the process logmon.exe from the ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery (RnR) solution eats all the CPU available. The effect is that the processor speed doesn't get throttled down which results in a lot of heat (and fan).

This wasn't usual behavior, and I also don't know since when RnR freaks out the temperature of my T43. I looked at the changelog of the new RnR 3.1, which even states that the CPU usage got reduced. Well, at least that's not the case with me.

Manually killing logmon.exe solves the problem. I deinstalled the software yesterday. Am I the only one with this scenario? :?

I have no clue why logmon would do that; at least it doesn't it on my system. :?

I find it interesting that R&R 3.1 has anything to do with a logon monitor process as it is simply an R&R solution. Perhaps it is part of an integrated stub that they put in to work with later versions of CSS and the Fingerprint Reader.

Read the README and change the active state in the *.ini file to 1 instead of 0.
