Problem with T40 and DVI output to Dell LCD

#1 Post by Biker2679 » Mon Jul 10, 2006 11:01 pm

Hi all,

Even with all the DVI horror stories on here, I havent been able to find anyone that has run across this issue, and its driving me nuts. I just got a DVI KVM in order to use my Thinkpad T40 in the Mini-Dock connected to my Dell 1905FP LCD via DVI on the dock. Everything was up and working fine, but after a couple of minutes, the screen on the LCD goes blank for a second or two, and then comes back on without any intervention from me. Its almost as if it loses signal or something.

At first I thought it was the KVM, so I disconnected everything and ran a DVI cable straight from the dock to the external LCD. Problem is still there. In addition, when both the thinkpad LCD and the external LCD are active, the problem does not occur on the thinkpad's LCD but occurs on the external LCD. Also, it appears to occur regardless of resolution- I have seen it running at 1280x1040 and 1024x768. Also, the problem does not occur when I have the external LCD connected via VGA- its only through DVI.

I am thinking it might be a driver issue or even a problem with the dock itself, but I am really without any ideas at the moment. Any thoughts on this? TIA!!

Update

#2 Post by Biker2679 » Tue Jul 11, 2006 1:41 pm

So here is a bit of an update, and a bump as well because I am totally stumped.

I completely uninstalled the ATI drivers, rebooted and then installed the Omega drivers. However, the issue is still there :( At this point, it really seems like a signal issue, because the screen on the laptop doesnt do it, it doesnt happen when using the VGA out, and its not putting the screen into power saving mode or anything like that. I will give IBM a call tomorrow, but since the Mini-Dock is well out of warranty, I dont have much hope. This is really a pain because it happens while I am typing and I cant see what is going on. It is still very sporadic, but I am not sure what thats about.

Any thoughts?

Have you tried swapping out your DVI cables? Maybe you have a floating ground.

Also, make sure you have all your equipment's power is plugged into the same source.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
