Games that'll work w/ the T40?

#1 Post by Fergy » Tue Jul 11, 2006 10:11 pm

Howdy,

I have a true gaming PC (7950gx2, 3800x2, 2gb DDR500 RAM, etc.) but I bought this laptop for business (stock market research) and school (love taking notes via typing).

However, I'm curious what games this laptop will play "OK"?

I have Call of Duty 1, and it meets the minimum, and beats the minimum CPU wise, ram wise, etc.

I just bought it on Ebay and it's supposed to ship tomorrow, yay!

It's model 2373-82U if it matters, upgraded the RAM to 512, may go to 2gb if I see I "need" it. :)

My T43 has x300, 2.0ghz, 768mb ram

and I was able to run Half-Life 2 Episode One with great frame rate at medium settings. I was really suprised. especially because i've tried Rainbow Six Ravenshield and it was choppy at low. Myst Masterpiece runs great :-)

I've got a T43 w/spec in sig and Raven Shield plays great...I've got the following on my T43 that I play on regular rotation (med-high settings) and they run fine:

Raven Shield (+AS and IW)
Jedi Academy
KotOR
Republic Commando
B1942 (+Desert Combat and Forgotten Hope)
Elite Force
Quake 3 (oldie but a goodie)

I wonder, sparta.rising, why you're running into issues with RS?

Hi,

I have played COD2 in my T40 w/Radeon 7500 great, set up with DX7 acceleration (not DX9) at my native 1024x768 resolution and with playable frame rates (30+).

Just remember that the radeon mobility 7500 is in fact almost the same as the radeon 8500 desktop core, so yes, it is a bit more powerful than what it could be expected at first sight...

Well that's great to hear.

I COD and COD2, and wasn't even expecting to be able to even launch COD2. But yeah, the DirectX 7 rendering of COD2 really makes it easier to run.

As for why Ravenshield is causing some problems is mainly because the game, from what I've read, is a real system hog. :)

Running DX7 with the 7500 is better than running dx9? i thought it would run dx9 just without the extra features?

anyone got a link to DX7?

There is no "link" to DirectX 7, it's probably already on your laptop, as it has been since you bought it.

Just go to run and type "dxdiag" and your DirectX is in there under one of the tabs. ;)

I knew what you meant by "link," but I was saying you shouldn't really need to downoad DX7 unless you are updating your DX7 files.

Civ4 will be very choppy on T40-T42, but is playable... (this was actually the primary reason that I got the T41p)

Your leg is being pulled (re: Doom 1)
It is a hacker badge of honor to get Doom to run on really improbable devices - cell phones, PDAs, iPods, etc.

As to the Hacker badge of honour? Well, there are versions of Doom that can be downloaded onto some phones, PDAs obviously, etc...

Here's the site I was thinking of when I posted that comment:
http://www.itplaysdoom.com/

From the home page:
'You're visiting the official It Plays Doom website. Our goal is to bring together every gadget enabled to play DOOM. From watches to refrigerators, if it's out there we'll find it."
