Software installer strange behavior

#1 Post by acz » Wed Jul 12, 2006 2:26 pm

I have the Software Installer ver 3.61.0609 installed on my T41p (2373-GEU). It is doing a couple of strange things.

1. It thinks that I have InterVideo WinDVD 4.0-B11.270 and it wants to install 4.0-B11.280. If I allow that to go, the installation fails. When I start WinDVD I see that it IS version 4.0 DXVA B11.280C14.14125.0000D00000. Nevertheless, the software installer wants to do this every time. Is there some installer file or installer data corruption that I can fix?

2. It wants to install Intel ProSET 6.4.0.0 and says it is required but not installed. Nevertheless, when I do Start -> Programs -> Intel Network Adapters -> Intel PROSet for Wired Connections -> Help -> About it says version 8.2.0.0.
Then that program sees two different "Network components:. The first is labeled '11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter" and it has driver version 4.1.102.1095. The second one is labeled "Intel(r) PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection" and it has driver 7.2.12.101.

So, has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there anything I can do to fix these confusing offers by the software installer?
Should I delete anything from the C:/DRIVERS directory that might be causing some confusion?

The Software Installer has generally worked quite well in the past.
Thank you very much.

T23 (2647-HNU, pulsing fan, won't boot)
T41p (2373-GEU, works perfectly)
T61 (7658-CTO, works perfectly)

For the WinDVD problem I suggest you just select that it should ask to install that again.
As far as I remember it is possible to check a box after download but I might be wrong and that it's only System Update that offers that option.
