T43 starting to die after 5 months!

#1 Post by unimorpheus » Sun Jul 16, 2006 12:43 pm

I have a T43 2668-4DU that gave a beep code of 1,3,3,1 which according to the maintenance manual is system board or DIMM. The machine has two 1GB micron DIMMs installed. The T43 would not power up with the AC attached. I disconnected the AC, removed the battery and let the machine sit. Reattached all and tried to boot under AC power and again beep codes. Once I removed the AC adapter the unit would power up on battery power without error. Reattach AC and power up again and it is running normally. From other post I have read I thing this machine is getting ready to loose a system board. Any thoughts?

Have you tried removing one of the memory modules? It's far easier if the problem is on memory.

Pulled the keyboard and both memory DIMMs. While I have this thing open is there any thing else I should look at/for? Thanks!

Ah, I meant you can pull the first RAM module out and see if you still have the problem. If you do then try swapping with the other RAM module and see if you can reproduce the issue.

I understand your point sugo. Call me crazy but I have NEVER seen this type of problem caused by Crucial/Micron memory. That is why this is the only brand I will use. Since I was taking things apart I reseated the processor, modem card, WIFI card, display connector, memory and anything else what was not nailed down. Everything is back together now and the system appears to be working correctly. We will see what happens. Thanks for the assistance.

Well, I had a 512MB crucial dimm (brand new) in my T42, and it was causing it to crash. so it does happen. this was within the past 3 months too. i thought it was the mainboard, took it in for service, and was told i had a memory issue. I was upset that i was too ignorant to bother testing my brand new crucial ram after my problems started sometime after that (but i had performed a few upgrades on the T42).

Nitehawk you do have a point, nothing is perfect, not even Micron. The T43 has run without issue since I tore it down and reseated everything. As much as it gets carried around that may have been the issue. Only time will tell. If it does start to give me more problems I will certainly take a close look at the memory before I go get a planar replaced.
