Replaced LCD Now No Power

#1 Post by elliotlewis » Sun Jul 16, 2006 1:39 pm

Help! I got courage to replace my LCD on my t42 Thinkpad. It was relatively easy but when I went to turn on the machine I had no power, no lights, nothing. I tried jiggling some wires but no change.

THe LCD is SXGA.

What did I do? How can I fix this? Is there a poewer reset button?

I plugged the old one into the new LCD screen.

I replacedd the screen because the screen had gone dark except when on very low power. I did replace the Inverter but that did not work. Thus the new LCD Screen.

As cmarti notes above, you MUST replace the LCD cable if you change the LCD panel from an XGA screen to an SXGA+ screen. Otherwise, you will encounter precisely the syndrome you describe. Good luck!

My original Screen was a SXGA screen. I don't even get the powere light coming on when I plug it into a wall.

Okay; I did not realize that your original screen was the same SXGA+.
It is possible - however unlikely - that a connector you "touched" is not seated properly or is misconnected.

Unplug and replug all connectors on the base side that you had to disconnect: keyboard, palmrest, Communication Daughter Card (CDC), LCD cable, and power cable (to the right of LCD connector).

I know it sounds like superstition to disconnect and reconnect plugs, but if you only knew how many electronics problems are solved simply by the "laying on of hands" ...
Good luck!

I think that is the best idea. I just tried removing the battery and AC and then plugging the AC back in. I did get the lights below the LCD to come on but went off after about 10 seconds.

I am receiving a similar problem...

I am upgrading my XGA to SXGA+ and have replaced the cable. I can use an external monitor fine but once I switch to LCD it reboots every 10seconds or so in a loop.

I have tried two different screen and two cables no luck.
