T41p Ultrabay hard drive disappeared!

#1 Post by none » Mon Jul 17, 2006 11:05 pm

Greetings all,

I have a T41p as per my signature and about two weeks ago I got an Ultrabay Slim hard drive adapter and a Hitachi 5K100 hard drive. I installed the second drive in the machine, Windows saw the hardware, and I created a partition on it using the Administrative Tools > Computer Management control panel.

Everything was working great, until now... Today, while talking about my new hard drive with a friend, I took out the adapter with the drive in it out of the Ultrabay slot for demonstration. During this time the notebook was turned off, and I mean OFF, not hibernating or something.

But when I plugged the Ultrabay adapter back in and booted up the system again, Windows could no longer see the partition on it. The physical secondary drive is still showing properly in Device Manager, but it's acting as if it's unformatted.

When I go back to Administrative Tools, it insists that all the space is unallocated and offers me the option to create a new partition for the full 100GB of the drive.

I've tried rebooting to no end, re-seating the adapter and such, but no luck. Can anyone shed some light on what may be causing this?

Hello,

Have you tried inserting this HD in a different T4X and see if you still have the same problem? You also should be able to test it in any computer if you can get your hands in a 2.5'' enclosure.

Is there any chance that you touched the electronics on the base of the disc during your demonstration?

Regards.
