Replacing Hard Drive-which are the quietest?

#1 Post by Indiana Jones » Thu Aug 12, 2004 3:29 pm

I recently purchased a T41 2379-DJU with the 40gb 5400 Hitachi. I'd like to replace the hard drive with a larger and possibly faster one. I really hate the current Hitachi HD "clicking" noise. It's unbelievably obnoxious in a quiet work enviroment. The 60gb 7200 Hitachi HD looks wonderful, but I'm concerned it will "click" like my current HD because of Hitachi general design. Does it "click"? I know people have claimed the 7200 is quiet, but can you hear any clicking in a dead silent room? Are the Fujitsu's or other HD manufactures quieter? Any reconmendations would be wonderful. Thanks.

I just installed the 40 gig Hitachi E7k60 7200 RPM drive in my R40 replacing the Hitachi 4200 rpm it came with. It is louder than the drive that it replaced. The 50 gig Toshiba 7200 RPM (16 meg cache I believe) is supposed to be quieter if you can find it.
